Narrator: It's nice to be needed, to be seen as reliable, dependable, a safe pair of hands. When your colleague needs help on a new project, your friend needs help moving house, or your boss needs you to put in a few extra hours, it's natural to want to help out. They'd do the same for you, right?

But while it's nice to be needed, you also need to be nice to yourself.

You can do this by making sure you get enough sleep, eating healthily, staying hydrated, and making time for exercise, remembering to take breaks during the day and getting plenty of fresh air, stopping work when work stops, and avoiding the temptation to check your emails out of hours.

By doing these things, you'll be the best version of yourself, the version that others know and love. So, why not put your phone down, close your laptop, and get some air. You'll thank yourself later.

Reflective Questions

Once you've watched the video, reflect on what you've learned by answering the following questions:

  • Do you often put the needs of others before your own? How does this affect your wellbeing?
  • What self-care techniques do you consistently practice? And what ones would you like to do more of?
  • How do you maintain your boundaries between work and personal time to protect your wellbeing?
