Used well, visual aids such as flipcharts, slides and PowerPoint can add interest and color to your presentations and can help to emphasize key points.
This quick checklist will ensure that the visual aids you choose to use in your presentations are fit for purpose.

Are your visual aids organized and logical?
If you are using slides, sheets or transparencies, have you numbered them?
Have you used color?
If so, have you ensured that you use no more than three different colors throughout?
Have you ensured that you have used colors that are easy to see (e.g. black, dark blue, dark green NOT pink, orange, yellow or pastels)?
On slides or transparencies – have you ensured that there are no more than six words per line and no more than six lines per transparency/slide?
On flipcharts – have you ensured that there are no more than eight words per line and no more than eight lines per sheet?
Have you used a legible font style?
Have you used no more than two different font styles?
Have you used capital letters on handwritten visual aids if your handwriting is untidy?
Have you followed the same grammatical style throughout, e.g. first person, present tense?
Is the visual aid clearly visible by everyone in the room?
Have you used bullet points or short statements where possible?
Have you translated figures into charts, diagrams or graphs to enable quick understanding?
Have you labeled charts, diagrams and graphs?
