Narrator/Manager (off-screen): Meet Lucy. She lives to work. She's happiest in the zone, uber engaged, good pay, plenty of praise, regular feedback. What more do you need?
Lucy: Actually, I'm not that engaged right now. Sure, I know my stuff, but I'm looking for a little more. I want to grow, improve my skills, and do some new stuff now and then.
Narrator/Manager (off-screen): Ah, OK, let me see what I can delegate. I know you're up to it, but I thought you were busy enough already.
Lucy: I'd like more freedom too. Less check-ins from you. More "check this out" from me. And trust me to make my own decisions.

Narrator/Manager (off-screen): Ok...
Lucy: Also, feedback is great, but I need a little more than "good job." I want to see the impact of my work. Show it to me.
Narrator/Manager (off-screen): You're right. Let's visit your goals and show how your work fits into the bigger picture. And if some tasks don't, let's change that. Focus on what you want to do, what makes you even more valuable.
Lucy: So more control over what I do, the opportunity to try and learn new things, and seeing the good that comes from my work. Now you're talking!
Reflective Questions
Once you've watched the video, reflect on what you've learned by answering the following questions:
- How do you currently measure employee engagement in your team?
- Are team members provided opportunities for growth and skill development?
- What feedback is given to employees, and does it help them to understand the value of their work?
