David Snelders is a long-time user of Mind Tools. He first came across the site before the Club began, and signed up as one of the first members in 2006.
"I was looking for some management tools online and I came across Mind Tools," he recalls. "The tools were things that I hadn't seen before and they were very useful in a number of ways."
By becoming a member, David hoped he could use the resources on the site to improve his professional skills.
"I wanted first of all to understand whether my management style was in agreement with what other people thought a manager should be. And certainly by talking to people, I found that there were certain skills I needed to develop," he admits. "Seeing so many tools I could use, it made me think twice and I decided yes, this is something I need to be more involved with."
Over the years, David has seen the content on the site change and grow. He still rates the newsletters as ‘most useful', but now enjoys accessing the content on the move.
"I use the iPhone app and that's superb," he says. "Within seconds, if you have a doubt about something you can check. You can do learning wherever you like."
David is also a keen participant in the mentoring network.
"I signed up as one of the mentors," he reports. "I've mentored now six or seven people around the world in different countries and that has been really good, because we've kept up communication as friends."
He believes his involvement in the Club has made a difference to how he performs at work.
"Other people have found that I am more organised," he says. "My communication verbally is a lot clearer, and certainly my presentation styles have improved dramatically to the degree that I feel more confident in actually delivering a presentation or training session."
So what's his advice for anyone considering joining the Club?
"I tend to recommend Mind Tools wherever I go. I tell people about the ease of access, and that it's very private and confidential," he says. "If you want to develop your skills without having to go to university of college but in your own time, Mind Tools is the best place to do it."
